ATGENDER – Membership categories

Members of the association have to be a physical person or a legal person, i.e. an institute with a legal status or a physical person. Members can come from any country, providing they have an interest in the European dimension of gender studies, feminist research, women’s rights, gender equality and diversity.

ATGENDER has the following categories of membership:

Individual members

These may include:

  • Academics with an interest in the field of gender studies and feminist research;
  • Persons active in promoting women’s rights, gender equality and diversity in a range of settings (women’s centres, libraries and documentation centres, central or local government, private enterprises, NGO’s, activist groups, etc.).

Student members

  • Students and junior researchers with an interest in the field of gender studies and feminist research.

Institutional members

These may include:

  • Universities, institutions of further and higher education, research institutes, libraries, documentation and resource centres active in the field of gender studies and feminist research;
  • Local, regional, national or European associations and institutions in the field of gender studies and feminist research;
  • Local, regional, national or European associations, women’s centres, and NGO’s in the field of women’s rights, gender equality, and diversity.

For the current year, membership fees are as follows:

Institutional full        € 500

Institutional reduced  € 250

Individual full            € 75

Individual reduced    € 45

Students                   € 25

Requests for reduced fees must be sent to the ATGENDER secretariat (info@atgender.eu), along with a letter explaining the motivations. The reduced rate is obtained on a yearly basis, subject to agreement from at least half of the Board members. In cases of extreme economic hardship, applications to have the annual fees wavered entirely can be made through the same channel.

There is no limit to the number of people who can be covered by an Institutional membership, although this form of membership gives the right to just three votes at the ATGENDER Annual General Meeting, to three reduced rate registration fees for the European Feminist Research Conferences and to one reduced subscription rate to the partner academic journals. Individuals whose institution has joined ATGENDER and who wish to take advantage of the membership benefits beyond these limits are advised to become individual members.

Each institutional member nominates an ATGENDER contact person, who is responsible for disseminating information about the association’s activities within that institution.

Finally, ATGENDER Board members must pay an individual membership fee, whether or not their institution is already a member.
