Mending Workshop

Visible mending is a transformative practice. Most obviously, it transforms a broken item by repairing it in such a way that the mend remains visible. But by mending we can also transform our relationship to the material world, to our personal and collective past, to the system of production and consumption, and to institutionalized habits and practices. During this workshop you will engage in a simple, intuitive mending technique, which you can practice during and after the conference as practice of reflection, recuperation and/or resilience. All mending materials and a brief manual will be provided. To participate, all you need to bring is a textile item to be mended. Ideally this item should be made from a knitted material. A knitted hat, a sock, a sweater, t-shirt or shawl are all suitable items.
