CALL FOR PAPERS
“Located at Crossroads of Race and Gender: Intersectional Analysis in Women’s and Gender Studies”
From May 17 until May 20, 2012 the 8th European Feminist Research Conference will take place in Budapest, Hungary. The conference is organized by the Central European University’s Department of Gender Studies, and ATGENDER, the European Association for Gender Research, Education and Documentation. The overall conference theme is The Politics of Location Revisited: Gender@2012.One strand for presenting papers is “Located at Crossroads of Race and Gender: Intersectional Analysis in Women’s and Gender Studies.”For this strand we seek papers that address recent developments in feminist theory, focusing on structures of domination and privilege along lines of race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, disability, age, and religion. We welcome contributions on several aspects of intersectionality, such as how these inequalities are framed in feminist discourse? How does intersectionality help to reconceptualize identity and identity constructions? What methodological challenges do we have to consider when using intersectionality as a tool of analysis? How do discourses of intersectionality and ‘multiple discriminations’ lead to different policy approaches? In what ways does intersectionality shed a new light on different institutional practices and the creation of subjectivities? How does the perspective of intersectionality further advance scholarship in the humanities and the social sciences?
The strand is coordinated by Eva Federmayer (federmayer.eva@gmail.com), Kristin Loftsdóttir (kristin@hi.is), and Adriana Zaharjevic (…).
Please contact us with questions or ideas.
